Sonoma County hot-tub heat pumpsFor the hours between soaks

Evaluated, sized + installed by West County Refrigeration

Your tub spends more time waiting than being used. A heat pump moves outdoor warmth into the water, helping maintain temperature with less electricity than resistance heat.

You do not need every specification before calling. Start with your city, tub size and current heater. North Bay refrigeration service since 2010.

Four moments. One hot tub kept ready.

The advantage

Keep the water ready without creating every bit of heat from scratch.

Electric resistance makes heat directly. An air-source heat pump gathers available heat from outside and transfers it into the water. The point is simple: less electrical input to maintain the same hot water under the right conditions.

Ready more oftenMaintain temperature instead of reheating a cold tub before every soak.

Lower-input heatingMove existing heat instead of creating all of it with resistance elements.

Compatibility first

Is your hot tub actually a good fit?

A heat pump is not always a direct replacement for the heater inside a self-contained spa. West County reviews the complete setup before recommending equipment.

Promising fit

You use the tub regularly and keep it near temperature.

There is open airflow, service access, a workable plumbing route and electrical capacity that can be verified.

Needs review

You need rapid heat from cold water or the equipment is enclosed.

Undocumented controls, tight access or unknown electrical service do not automatically rule it out. They must be checked.

If the property will not benefit, the correct answer is not to sell you the equipment.

The equipment

The machine is selected after the property, not before it.

West County sizes the Arctic system around water volume, target temperature, local conditions, expected recovery, airflow, sound, plumbing and available power.

5.4–6.9Published COP range across five inverter models at stated test conditions
48–58Published dB(A) sound range by model at stated test conditions
  • DC inverter compressor and brushless fan adjust output with demand.
  • Spiral titanium exchanger separates refrigerant from treated water.
  • LCD touch control with Wi-Fi capability is published for the product family.

Published figures are selection data, not a promise of identical performance at your property. Actual results change with air temperature, water temperature, cover, exposure, usage and installation.

What the range means

Can it keep a Sonoma hot tub hot?

Potentially, yes. The property still decides.

Arctic publishes equipment for hot-water targets and cold outdoor operation. West County determines which model can carry the actual tub through the conditions at your home.

Strongest fit

Keep already-warm water ready.

The system replaces ongoing heat loss instead of reheating a cold tub before every use.

Needs calculation

Recover from a cold fill.

Water volume, starting temperature and model capacity determine how long recovery takes.

Needs calculation

Carry the coldest nights.

Available heat and system output change as outdoor temperature falls.

The useful number is not the biggest published number. It is the output of the selected model at your water temperature, outdoor conditions and heat loss. West County verifies that before recommending equipment.

Choose by use

How do you actually use the tub?

The right heater depends less on a sales claim and more on one practical question: do you keep the water ready, or do you regularly ask a cold tub to get hot fast?

Common in self-contained spas

Electric resistance

You use the heater already built into the tub.

It creates heat directly with electricity. Adding a separate heat pump may require plumbing, controls and electrical changes.

Consider when fast recovery matters

Gas heater

You need cold water hot quickly.

Gas can remain the better tool when recovery speed matters and the property has suitable fuel, venting and equipment space.

Installation anatomy

The product does not arrive in isolation.

A working system needs a deliberate location and a verified path into the existing water and electrical systems.

  1. Base and drainageA stable service pad and a plan for normal water and condensate around the unit.
  2. Air pathClearances for intake, discharge and future service without recirculating cold exhaust air.
  3. Water loopA plumbing route, flow control and bypass arrangement suited to the existing circulation system.
  4. Sanitation sequenceThe treatment equipment and heat pump must be arranged according to current equipment requirements.
  5. Electrical pathVerified capacity, disconnect location and installation scope before equipment is ordered.

Daily ownership

The controls should disappear into the routine.

The product family publishes a color touch controller with integrated Wi-Fi, automatic defrost behavior and heating and cooling modes. West County confirms which functions apply to the chosen model and how they integrate with the existing tub.

Temperature and modeThe homeowner should leave the handoff knowing what to set and when to leave the system alone.

Wi-Fi capabilityRemote monitoring is a published product feature. Network setup and available functions are confirmed during selection.

Automatic defrostDefrost is normal cold-weather operation, not automatically a sign that the unit has failed.

Before you decide

The questions a careful buyer should ask.

There is no universal hot-tub heat-pump answer. These are the conditions that change the recommendation.

What happens when I call?

Tell West County what you know: your city, tub size, current heater and how often you use it. We will identify the missing details, explain whether the use case sounds promising and tell you what is needed for an installed quote. If a heat pump is not the right tool, we will say so before equipment is quoted.

Will this actually lower my energy use?

A heat pump moves heat from outdoor air instead of creating all of it directly. That can reduce the electrical input required to maintain the same water temperature compared with electric resistance. Actual use depends on the heater, weather, volume, cover, setpoint, schedule and installation.

Does every hot tub work with a heat pump?

No. Compatibility depends on circulation, plumbing, controls, electrical requirements, site conditions and manufacturer guidance. Those conditions are reviewed before equipment is recommended.

How quickly will it heat the water?

Recovery changes with water volume, starting temperature, target temperature, outdoor air, cover and model capacity. Heat pumps generally make the most sense for steady temperature maintenance rather than a rapid cold start.

How loud is the equipment?

Arctic publishes sound ratings by model and test condition. Placement, surrounding surfaces, distance and operating demand affect what you hear at the property.

What should I send for an installed quote?

Send the address, water volume, target temperature, current heater and circulation equipment, equipment-area photos, electrical-panel information and how often you use the water. If something is unknown, send the model number and what you can see.
